YSI Alyza IQ | Changing Cleaning, Calibration, & Measurement Intervals

This video covers how to change the cleaning, calibration, and measurements intervals on the IQ SensorNet Alyza IQ analyzer.

To change cleaning, calibration, measuring intervals, start by pressing the "S" button.

Scroll to Settings of sensors and diff. sensors and press Okay.

Highlight the far right column, press Okay. And then press Continue.

This is where you will change cleaning, calibration, and measuring intervals.

Starting with the measuring interval, highlight Meas. interval and press Okay.

Select the desired interval between 5 minutes and 12 hours.

Continuing down to Automatic Cleaning, highlight Autom.cleaning, select On, and press Okay.

Underneath this listing, five new variables will pop up including interval, which offers selections of 6 hours, 12 hours, 24, 48, and 96 hours.

Underneath this is Ref.time hours and Ref.time minutes. This allows you to set what time of day the automatic cleaning cycle starts. In this example, we are starting the cleaning cycle at 8:30 a.m.

Under this is Conditioning and count of steps. Conditioning refers to the number of rinse cycles that take place after an automatic cleaning. This is adjustable from 1 to 10 using the count of steps function.

Now, moving on to the automatic calibration function. After turning it on, four new variables will populate the first of which being Procedure. This will allow you to choose a 1 or 2-point calibration procedure. You will only have the 2-point option if you have installed 2 calibration solution ChemBags.

Next, you will set the interval. The options are 6, 12, 24, 48, and 96 hours.

The last two variables to be set are Ref.time hours and Ref.time minutes. In this example, we are setting automatic 1-point calibrations to occur every 12 hours starting at 12:30 p.m. After setting up the automatic calibration, double-check that all settings on this screen are satisfactory.

Before exiting from this screen, be sure to scroll to the bottom and press Save and quit. Failure to do this will cause all changed settings to be erased.

YSI Titrator Inspection and Maintenance

Here are our recommendations on inspection and maintenance guidelines to ensure that you get the most out of your YSI titrators.

Before we begin today, I want to emphasize that maintenance checks vary among laboratories. The frequency of use, throughput capacity, and sample type can alter maintenance schedules for each instrument. It is important to be mindful of this as you use your titration system. Let's begin.

The first and easiest step to improve your product's lifespan is to begin with a simple cleaning. Spills happen all the time in the lab. Be sure to wipe away any liquids or spills from your titrator with a laboratory soft towel or a Kimwipe whenever necessary. Having a clean instrument will ensure peak condition and optimal workflow. After the exterior surface of the titrator is clean, we will perform an overall instrument inspection. For heavy strain labs, we recommend inspecting your equipment on a weekly basis. For lower strain laboratories, a monthly inspection should be enough.

To begin, check for leakage around the dosing system. Confirm the piston is tight. If the piston is not tight, or you're having trouble tightening it, you may want to replace the piston. Check out YSI.com to browse our piston size options. Confirm the valve is also tight. The titration tubes should be attached and there should be no moisture under the valve. If there is moisture or the valve will not tighten, you may need a new one. Check out YSI.com to browse our options.

The last step in completing an inspection is to confirm that the titration tip is free of blockages. A blocked titration tip could prevent liquid from dispersing, leading to inaccurate titrations. We would recommend thoroughly cleaning your dosing system every three months. It's important that all of the parts are cleaned separately. A thorough cleaning depends on what titrant you're using in your laboratory. For the purpose of this video, we are going to clean the dosing system with distilled water.

Our team at YSI also recommends performing a complete technical and visual inspection every six months or twice a year. This inspection is designed to ensure that there are no dings or external damage. Air bubbles lead to inaccurate dosing measurements. It's important to confirm that there are no air bubbles in your dosing components. If you see air bubbles, continuously run the titrant through the system. Check for any exterior damage to the titrator. Look over the instrument and ensure that there is no obvious damage that could affect your titration. Take a closer look and inspect the electrical components to check for rust and other physical damage. And to round out your routine maintenance and inspection, our team at YSI recommends certifying your unit for volumetric performance according to ISO 8655. This helps ensure that the data you produce is accurate and reliable.

EXO2s Sonde Unboxing & Overview

Hi, this is Zack Henderson, product manager for YSI, a Xylem brand. And today, I'm super excited to do an unboxing video for our brand new EXO2s Sonde. The first thing you might notice about this is the size difference. Here is your standard EXO2 box size comparison with the EXO2s box. Definitely saves on space and shipping.

When you open up the box, the first thing you'll be greeted with is our quick start guide. It's front and back. You will receive a maintenance kit that includes a syringe for cleaning the depth sensor, and also a couple magnetic sensor installation and removal tools.

In addition, we have our lubricant and a spare bulkhead O-ring. This lubricant is absolutely critical for making sure our wet-mate connectors stay well lubricated. And then we have a bag with a bunch of port plugs. So we have four sensor port plugs, and then plugs for our main connector ports and our auxiliary port. And then finally, don't lose this, this is the USB drive containing the core software, which you'll use to interface with the sonde. Now let's talk about the main attraction here, the sonde. So this is the EXO2s Sonde. Let me get this box out of the way.

So the EXO2s Sonde, what is the EXO2s? It is the short version of our standard EXO2 Sonde. We basically remove the battery compartment. So you get a much more compact package, but you do have to supply external power. Aside from that, all the benefits of a normal EXO2 are here. So I have a standard EXO2 conveniently set to the side here, so we can get a nice visual on the differences. And as you can see, it is about a 40% reduction in length. It's also a much lighter solution. So for applications that are space-sensitive, if you wanna hide the sonde, it's a much smaller footprint. Drone or AUV applications where weight might be a factor, this would be a better choice. And this is also, you know, much lighter on your budget as well. So as long as you can supply external power, this is gonna be a more cost-effective solution than the sonde here. Also, without the internal battery compartment, you don't have to worry about replacing alkaline batteries. So it's a more sustainable solution as well.

So let's talk about the sonde itself. So on the top, we have the bale and the two main connector ports. We have our power and communication port here. So this is what would be connected to your topside monitoring system, which would allow for communication and supplying external power. We also have our auxiliary port, which you can use to daisy-chain sondes together. You can connect our EXO PAR sensor or a third-party sensor to it. But most of the time, I think most users just plug this port here.

And this is an EXO2, so you get seven sensor ports. Most of the time, a central wiper will be placed in the center port here leaving six universal ports to plug in any EXO sensors you want in your payload. And the central wiper will keep those clean over the course of the deployment. Also, you can see these four holes here, that is our integrated depth sensor. So the depth sensor is built into the sonde here. Another cool thing is on the body of the sonde, it actually tells you how far away the depth measurement is being made from the other sensor measurements. So, I have a DO sensor here, for example, I'm gonna plug in.

So when you're measuring water quality with an EXO, most of the measurements take place right around this area. All the sensing is done here. So it's nice that it tells you how far, especially if it's in a vertical orientation, how far away the depth is being measured versus all the other sensor readings. And with core software, you can actually input an offset for the depth sensor if you wanted to kind of match those up if it's deployed in a vertical orientation. So that's kind of cool. One other thing I wanted to highlight, and this is true for all of our EXO Sondes, is that we use real wet-mate connectors. And what that means is if water was on the connector, splashed or even submerged, ideally, you wouldn't wanna do this, but when you plug a sensor in, there's no risk to it shorting out or anything like that.

Some of our competitors that use LEMO-style connectors with an O-ring seal or a double O-ring seal, that's all well and good but if water gets in that port and you plug the sensor in, those pins are gonna corrode. It's not really a factor here. But something that is important about the wet-mate connectors on the sensor side and on the cable side is keeping them well lubricated. I actually notice, you might see the pins glistening here, the wet-mates come pre-lubricated. So that's cool, but you also want to make sure to periodically apply some of that grease there to keep them well lubricated. So one other really cool use for this would be using it with a handheld for spot sampling applications. Go ahead and just plug this in here. All right. So given this relatively compact form factor and the fact that it has seven sensor ports, you get all the sensor options available on EXO, again, in a relatively compact spot sampling package, much more easier to move around and maneuver than the larger EXO2 Sonde. So EXO2s, definitely consider for spot sampling applications.

How to Order | Recurring Orders

How to order on YSI.com using the recurring orders function.

Recurring orders are available from the order confirmation page, meaning you have to place an order successfully first to make it a recurring order.

On order confirmation, select the frequency of your recurring order.

Select the starting date.

Select save as recurring order.

Recurring orders will replicate your order details for the order items and quantities, shipping address, and payment.

If a recurring order is set for a long-term frequency, such as yearly, please ensure your payment method is kept up to date.

Recurring orders can be established with either credit card or purchase order payment methods.

You can manage recurring orders or cancel at any time from your account order history.

How to Order | Purchase Orders

How to Order on YSI.com while using a purchase order.

Purchase orders are a payment option at step three of checkout.

Send an email to customer service at orders@ysi.com requesting that purchase orders be enabled for your account.

New customers with no credit standing with YSI will need to Submit a Credit Application to Customer Service with their PO request email.

Don’t forget to attach the credit application.

Upon email receipt, YSI will confirm your credit status, match your customer account to the organization and provide email confirmation that POs are enabled for your customer account.

Once your customer account is set up for POs, you will be able to select your approved billing addresses as your payment on checkout.

After logging in, adding items to your order, and continuing to checkout, on checkout step three – Payment – select Purchase Order.

Input your purchase order number.

Select and acknowledge that you are authorized to make the purchase.

Select your bill-to address for payment and continue placing your order.
